Last Saturday, 29th of October was World Stroke Day. To raise awareness, Tandem’s Thrive committee invited the Irish Heart Foundation to present at a lunch and learn. During the presentation we learned that stroke is the third largest cause of death in Ireland.
Many thanks to Aileen Mc Donnell Gillic, for delivering an insightful presentation that focused on how to reduce the risk of stroke, stroke recognition and how to act FAST.
Knowing the signs of stroke and how to act could significantly impact a person’s chances of survival and to what degree they can recover.
Congratulations to The Rainbow Club Cork on hosting an amazing fundraising event, their 10th Anniversary Masquerade Ball, at the Carrigaline Court Hotel & Leisure Centre on the 15th of October.
Well done to everyone involved in making it a spectacular event.
Tandem is delighted to support The Rainbow Club, who provide autism services and support to over 1,000 families each week.
Congratulations to Tandem’s Advance Graduate Programme participants who recently delivered their annual presentation to the Tandem senior leadership team.
Evan O’Donovan and Ciara O’Connor received their certificates of completion at the ceremony which took place at Blackrock Castle Observatory. Tim Mulhall, Managing Director, congratulated participants on their achievements to date and wished them continued success in their careers with Tandem Project Management. Tim spoke about how the programme supports each graduate’s continuous professional development and the achievement of their short and long-term career goals. Feedback from the senior leadership team also provided the graduates with a range of both professional and personal insights to support them in their career development.
The Advance Graduate Programme is just the beginning of each graduate’s journey and Tandem will continue to support their development, beyond the programme and throughout their career with Tandem.
Tandem was delighted to host a series of virtual visits to transition year students in Cork. Eight engineers from Tandem gave presentations across the following disciplines: Electrical, CSA, Building Services, Energy, CAD/BIM, and Process Engineering.
Each engineer delivered an overview of engineering as a career and their own career path to date. The presentations included their second and third level education journey, a description of the type of work & industries that their engineering discipline is typically involved in, their day-to-day activities in their engineering work and their career aspirations.
As part of Engineer’s Week 2022, Tandem donated a ‘Curiosity Box’ to the 3rd class in a local school. The Curiosity Box is an award-winning science and engineering toolkit designed to nurture children’s’ passion for discovery, experimentation, and exploration. Students completed practical experiments in engineering, maths, and chemistry. The main aim of Engineers Week is to promote engineering as a profession of choice to children in Ireland.
Tandem also donated virtual reality viewers to the 6th class pupils. Developed for the Science Museum, the Virtual Reality Goggles Wonderlab® turn almost any mobile phone into a virtual reality viewer. The VR viewers can help students understand the nature of light as part of the National Curriculum for Science.
During November, Tandem’s Engineers have been participating in the Engineers Ireland – STEPS Young Engineers Award Programme. The STEPS Young Engineers Award encourages 3rd and 4th class pupils to explore the world of engineering by developing a project that would help to improve their local community. Students form an engineering team and take on the challenge of using an engineering approach to find solutions.
Tandem’s engineers delivered virtual presentations to participating classes outlining what it is like to work as an engineer, the students then had the opportunity to showcase their projects and to receive feedback. All of the teachers reported that the students were thrilled with the presentations and the feedback they received on their projects.

As part of our CSR Programme, Tandem’s Engineers participated in Engineers Week during Feb 27th – March 5th by hosting a series of virtual visits to transition year students in Cork. Engineers Week promotes the importance of engineering as a profession and aims to positively showcase engineering as a rewarding and creative career choice. Five engineers from Tandem gave presentations across the following disciplines: Electrical, CSA, Building Services and Process & Chemical Engineering.
Under normal circumstances Tandem would facilitate a week-long learning experience for transition year students at its headquarters. This year, our engineers delivered an overview of engineering as a career and their own career path to date. The presentations included their second and third level education journey, a description of the type of work & industries that their engineering discipline is typically involved in, their day-to-day activities in their engineering work and their career aspirations.
As part of our CSR Programme, Tandem Project Management Ltd.’s Engineers volunteered for the Engineers Ireland STEPS Young Engineers Award Programme. The STEPS Young Engineers Award competition encourages 3rd and 4th class pupils to explore the world of engineering. Students are asked to look around in their community and identify opportunities for improvement, to form an engineering team and take on the challenge of finding solutions using an engineering approach. Due to COVID-19 our 2020 engagement was virtual. Tandem’s Engineers delivered presentations on what it is like to be an Engineer and the students then had the opportunity to showcase their projects and work on a team-based engineering challenge.
Tandem’s STEPS Week in numbers:
5 Tandem Engineers
7 Virtual School visits
4 Young Engineers Award Projects
187 Students
We look forward to visiting many more schools in the future and introducing them to the exciting world of Engineering.
As part of our CSR Programme, Tandem Project Management Ltd.’s engineers volunteered for the Engineers Ireland Engineers Week. Engineers Week promotes engineering and the importance of the profession to children in Ireland, and its aim is to positively showcase engineering as a rewarding and creative career choice to children in all communities.
Our engineers visited participating schools in Cork during the week 29th Feb – 06th March. The visit included a presentation from the engineers on engineering as a career. After the presentations, it was time for fun and learning with games designed by Engineers Ireland to open the students minds to engineering in their local environment and to the processes involved in a design and build project. The level of engagement from the students was enlightening.
We look forward to visiting many more schools in the future and introducing them to the exciting world of Engineering.
Tandem take
great pride in supporting the continuing professional development of our
people. Since 2017, Tandem has been recognised by Engineers Ireland for the
quality of, and commitment to continuous professional development systems and
practices for our staff. Following our re-accreditation audit in December 2019,
we are delighted to announce that we have received the maximum award duration
of three years.
According to Engineers Ireland Continuing Professional
Development (CPD) is the systematic maintenance, enhancement and development of
knowledge and skill, and the development of personal qualities necessary for
the execution of professional and technical duties, it is the process of
lifelong learning.
Tandem see the benefits of our CPD programme in very real
terms of staff retention, bringing the most up to date expertise to our
clients, thought leadership from within, innovation and continued strong
relationships with our clients.
One of the strengths of our CPD Committee is the cross
section of departments involved, ensuring that, company-wide, everyone in
Tandem is aware of the programme, receives updates regularly and is encouraged
in their own personal career development.
