Environmental

Tandem is committed to the protection of the environment and to continually improving the Tandem Environmental Management System (EMS) to enhance environmental performance by:

  • Complying fully with all relevant environmental legislation, standards, guidelines, codes of practice, requirements of the EMS as well as client and other requirements.
  • Continuously monitoring and regularly reviewing Company environmental performance.
  • Setting realistic objectives and achievable targets for environmental improvement including energy efficiency and waste management.
  • Ensuring that sufficient resources (labour, supervision, plant & equipment, time and budget) are provided to achieve the stated environmental objectives
  • Including environmental issues into training and development of employees
  • Assessing the environmental impact of our methods, procedures and activities in all aspects of the Company business in order to prevent pollution of / any adverse effects on the environment.
  • Tandem is committed to delivering high quality, energy efficient projects to clients, ensuring that the infrastructure that it designs and builds is sustainable and, where applicable, Tandem delivers nearly Zero Energy Buildings (nZEB).  
  • Tandem delivers Energy and Carbon Reduction projects for clients, resulting in reduced fossil fuel consumption, pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Tandem is committed to the protection of the environment and the reduction of water loss through delivering successful wastewater treatment projects.
  • Tandem is committed to ensuring its office has a minimal impact on the environment through energy saving air conditioning systems, heat recovery units, smart controls for energy use, water saving systems, enhanced building insulation and occupancy sensing LED lighting. 

Social

Tandem is committed to uphold the human rights of our workers and treat them with dignity and respect. Tandem shall support the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights and ensure we are not complicit in any abuses of human rights. Tandem complies with all applicable employment laws and regulations and shall provide a workplace free of abuse, harassment and discrimination. This is supported by the following areas:

Child Labour:Tandem does not use child labour. The employment of young workers below the age of 18 shall not occur in hazardous work or night shift work and shall only be allowed when young workers are above a country’s legal age for employment, or the age established for completing compulsory education.  
Non-discrimination:Tandem is an equal employment/affirmative action employer and does not discriminate against individuals on the basis of race, colour, age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, disability, religion, political affiliation, union membership, maternity, marital or family status or other reasons prohibited by law.  
Fair Treatment: Tandem provides a workplace free of harsh and inhumane treatment, including, any sexual harassment, sexual abuse, corporal punishment, mental or physical coercion or verbal abuse of workers, and free of threats of any such treatment.  
Wages, Benefits & Working Hours:   Tandem pays workers according to applicable wage laws, including minimum wages, overtime hours and mandated benefits. Tandem communicates to the worker the basis on which they are being compensated in a timely manner, including times and rates for overtime, as dictated by local law and Supplier policy. Tandem follows all applicable laws as it relates to holidays and time off.  
Forced Labour & Human Trafficking:  Tandem does not use forced labour or human trafficking in any instance.
Open and Honest Communication:Tandem is committed to creating an open and supportive workplace where employees feel comfortable to speak their minds, particularly in respect of ethics concerns. Tandem will investigate all reported instances of unethical behaviour. Where improper behaviour is found to have occurred, Tandem will take appropriate action. Retaliation against employees who raise ethics concerns in good faith will not be tolerated.

Tandem EHS & Wellbeing Committee (Thrive) engages with personnel to promote an EHS culture and the wellbeing of personnel. Through regular initiatives and communications Thrive aims to educate and engage personnel.

Tandem Project Management has always recognised the need to train and develop employees to their full potential. It is the policy of the Company to help and encourage employees to develop their capabilities and progress their careers by developing their skills and abilities. Tandem aims to facilitate the professional development of its personnel, enabling the company to adapt quickly to changing circumstances while sustaining high performance and profitability. Tandem has achieved the highest level of accreditation from Engineers Ireland for its Continuing Professional Development programme.

Tandem recognises and accepts its duties and responsibilities under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, SHWW (General Application_ Regulations 207, SHWW (Construction) Regulations 2013 and all other statutory requirements and codes of practice, guidelines, or industry best practices which relate to the company’s activities for the health, safety and welfare of all employees and all persons likely to be affected by its activities. The company’s objective is to provide a safe working environment for all its personnel and for any other person affected by their acts or omissions at work.

Tandem believes in the importance of giving back to the community in which we work and live. Tandem’s Corporate Social Engagement Policy engages personnel with local and national charities. Tandem donates to charities and sports clubs annually. Each year, Tandem creates partnerships with charities and aims to fulfil both fundraising and volunteering work on behalf of those charities.

Tandem volunteers time each year to run transition year programmes, participate in STEM events and in the Engineers Ireland Young Engineer’s Awards.

Governance

Tandem’s management structure comprises of the senior leadership team, including the CEO and the CFO. The Leadership Team includes the Associate Director for Operations, Associate Director of Built Environment and the Associate Director for Utilities and Energy. The leadership team along with the CEO meet weekly to discuss company strategy and opportunities for improvement. The Management Team includes Finance, HR, Talent Management, Customer Relations and Engineering Department Managers. The management team, leadership team and senior leadership team meet weekly to discuss operations and upcoming activities, the information from that meeting is then shared with all core personnel through departmental meetings.

Tandem builds its professional reputation on the merit of its services and refrains from competing unfairly with others. Corruption, extortion and embezzlement are prohibited. Tandem employees shall not pay or accept (directly or indirectly) bribes or participate in other illegal inducements in business or government relationships and shall comply with such anticorruption and anti-bribery laws as the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the U.K. Bribery Act, as well as local laws prohibiting bribery and corrupt payment and may involve anything of value. Tandem shall conduct its business consistent with fair and vigorous competition and in compliance with all applicable anti-trust laws.

Tandem will not acquire or seek to acquire improper means of a competitor’s proprietary or confidential information and will not engage in unauthorized use, copying, distribution or alteration of software or other intellectual property.

Tandem believes that employees are an organisation’s most important asset and that open communication within the Company is of prime importance. Realising that effective communication is always a two-way street; we value employees’ constructive opinions and suggestions. We believe in team effort and an open atmosphere, we also encourage employees to meet and discuss suggestions, problems or concerns with management.

Should grievances arise, employees may utilise the grievance procedure in an effort to have an issue resolved to their satisfaction. The Company provides a formal mechanism for employees to air any grievance if informal methods have not been successful or are not appropriate. This procedure provides for the right of every employee to a prompt and fair investigation of any complaint related to his/her employment.

Tandem will maintain all financial books and records in conformance with generally accepted accounting principles. Business records will be accurate in all material respects. Business and financial records must be legible, transparent and reflect actual transactions and payments.
