Tandem was delighted to support the Rainbow Club in the setup of their annual Santa Experience. This is an incredible service that brings Santa to life for autistic children that would be overwhelmed to attend a mainstream Santa experience. Their Santa’s grotto is for every child, teen, young adult & their families. The Rainbow Club aim to make their Santa visit as stress free as possible for autistic children, and to help families enjoy the experience and create memories. The Rainbow Club teaches people about Autism, how to live every day with it, and the challenges it brings to the child and family. They also provide multiple supports that are unavailable to families through normal healthcare channels.
Cork Penny Dinners Food Collection
Tandem commenced a series of lunch & learn workshops on the UN Sustainability Development Goals, the first of which was on Goal Number 1: No Poverty. Following on from that discussion, Tandem organised a food collection for Cork Penny Dinners. It was carried out over a 2-week period when we asked the team in Tandem and neighbouring business to collect non-perishable food items, baby food, clean clothing, hats, scarves and gloves. Tandem is delighted to support Cork Penny Dinners who experience a huge demand for their services over Christmas.
Christmas Quiz in aid of Charity Partners L’Arche
Tandem held its annual Christmas Quiz on the 21st December with all funds raised donated to our charity partners L’Arche Cork. The Christmas Quiz is a fun opportunity for the team to get together before breaking up for Christmas and raise some funds for our charity partners. This year we held a number of fundraisers for L’Arche and volunteered some labour in their sensory garden during the summertime. The Christmas quiz has raised over €500 for the charity. Thanks to all the team that participated in the quiz and made donations.
Tandem was delighted to collaborate with L’Arche as charity partners in 2023, supporting their goals and projects throughout the year.
Tandem is proud to have partnered with Focus Ireland for the last 4 years. Each year, Tandem undertakes fundraising activities and joins in on Focus Ireland events such as The Big Busk and Shine a Light, to help them towards their goal of eradicating homelessness.
Tandem also undertake projects with Focus Ireland that will impact people within the Focus Ireland community.
To date, we’ve undertaken garden makeover projects for families newly out of homelessness and living in Focus Ireland properties. This year we undertook to impact a greater number of people by painting the common areas in two Focus Ireland apartment blocks in Glanmire, Cork. There are twelve apartments in the complex, with a mixture of families, couples and singles.
Over two days, two teams of Tandem personnel got to work early to get entrance halls, stairs and landings, emergency door areas and upstairs landing areas painted and looking fresh and clean. We installed new numbers on all the apartment doors, we added some prints to the entrance hall and upstairs landings and some welcoming plants to add a bit of colour.
Tandem personnel worked well together, identifying what needed to be done and getting stuck in! It was a great activity to work with team members we don’t work with on a day-to-day basis and bond as a team.
Focus Ireland are thrilled with the results, as are the residents who sent messages, pictures and videos to Focus Ireland to say how happy they were with the finished look.
Tandem has participated in the Focus Ireland Shine a Light campaign for the fourth year running.
This annual event is hugely impactful in enabling Focus Ireland to undertake its valuable work. Focus Ireland works with people who are homeless or at risk of losing their homes across Ireland.
The event in 2022 resulted in:
240,000 Meals provided.
110 Young people exiting foster care supported.
16,500 people provided with advice and advocacy.
100 Families placed in long term accommodation for one year.
Tandem is delighted to support Focus Ireland and their goal to eradicate homelessness in Ireland. This year, Tandem raised €1,140 for the charity! Many thanks to the participants and to all our sponsors.
Tandem has partnered with L’Arche Cork for 2023. L’Arche provides assisted living facilities and a day centre for people with learning difficulties.
L’Arche is developing a horticulture project and sensory garden in their day centre. In the future, they will have a café on site with the garden providing organic, farm to fork produce. This year L’Arche will introduce a coffee pod, enabling their service users to gain new skills, engage in meaningful work and form social relationships as part of the community.
We were delighted to volunteer some time to help with the many jobs needed in preparation of the garden. We will be back again soon to continue the work! Thanks to Meadhbh, Dale, Anthony, and all the staff and service users that made us feel so welcome.
Tandem’s CSR team and volunteers have been busy so far this year and participated in the Focus Ireland Big Busk, Daffodil Day in aid of the Irish Cancer Society and Darkness into Light in aid of Pieta House.
The Focus Ireland Big Busk took place on 10th of March 2023. Nationwide, buskers, choirs, barbershop quartets and bands volunteered their time to entertain commuters and passers by as well as encouraging them to donate. Tandem’s volunteers joined in throughout the day to collect money at Kent Station Cork. We helped to raise €4,000 in Kent Station and over €346,000was raised nationally for the charity.
The 24th of March was Daffodil Day in aid of the Irish Cancer Society. Tandem held a cake sale over two days and raised €370.00 for the Irish Cancer Society.
On the 6th of May, Tandem staff participated in Darkness into Light, raising over €900.00 for Pieta House. In various locations nationwide, our colleagues got up at 3:30am to commence their walk shortly after, starting to walk before dawn and finishing up at sunrise.
Tandem’s charity partners for 2023 are Focus Ireland and L’Arche Ireland. We look forward to some volunteering opportunities with both these charities in the very near future.
Tandem was delighted to host eight students from five schools in Cork including two girls from Ursuline Secondary School in Blackrock, and six boys from Ashton, St. Francis College Rochestown, the Christian Brothers and Carrigaline Community School.
Tandem delivered a full programme of events for the week to engage the students with a variety of engineering disciplines. Disciplines included Process Engineering, Building Service Engineering, Civil / Structural Engineering, BIM, Electrical Engineering and Project Controls.
Presentations to the students included education and career paths to achieve a career in that discipline, definitions and explanations of that discipline and the type of work involved. The students were then given an engineering task related to what they had learned.
Each day students were asked to work on a presentation of what they had learned and what their experience had been, and at the end of the week the students delivered those presentations to Tandem staff.
Tandem is delighted with the feedback from the students and at the end of the week, all felt that they would now consider a career in engineering. A great result, and we will look forward to watching their careers unfold.
