Tandem Project Management Ltd. is proud to announce our 2020 CSR
partnership with Focus Ireland.
Focus Ireland provide long term housing to people at risk of
homelessness and a resettlement service to people moving out of homelessness
and into a new home. They provide advice and information to identify the best
available supports and options, in the first instance to avoid homelessness,
but also to those recently homeless. Focus Ireland provide a youth housing and
after care service to vulnerable young adults coming out of state care with no
options for housing.
Covid-19 poses a significant risk to homeless people because of their
circumstances, some people may also have long-term health issues, which may put
them at additional risk. It is almost impossible for people to self-isolate in
hostels, hubs or hotels, and Focus Ireland are doing everything they can to
ensure the safety of their clients at this time.

As part of our CSR Programme, Tandem Project Management Ltd.’s engineers volunteered for the Engineers Ireland Engineers Week. Engineers Week promotes engineering and the importance of the profession to children in Ireland, and its aim is to positively showcase engineering as a rewarding and creative career choice to children in all communities.
Our engineers visited participating schools in Cork during the week 29th Feb – 06th March. The visit included a presentation from the engineers on engineering as a career. After the presentations, it was time for fun and learning with games designed by Engineers Ireland to open the students minds to engineering in their local environment and to the processes involved in a design and build project. The level of engagement from the students was enlightening.
We look forward to visiting many more schools in the future and introducing them to the exciting world of Engineering.
Cork Penny Dinners is one of Cork’s oldest caring charitable organisations, currently serving up to 2000 freshly made meals per week at their premises. Cork Penny Dinners are open 7 days a week all year round including Christmas Day.
As part of our CSR Programme, Tandem
Project Management Ltd.’s engineers volunteered for the
Engineers Ireland STEPS Young Engineers Award Programme.
The Engineers Ireland STEPS
Programme is a non-profit outreach programme that promotes interest and
awareness of engineering as a future career. The STEPS Young Engineers Award
2020 is a competition that asks 3rd and 4th class students all over the country
to design an engineering project that would help their community.
As part of the award
curriculum, our engineers visited participating schools in Cork and Waterford
during the week 25th – 29th November. The visit included a presentation from
the engineers on engineering as a career and the students then presented their
projects to the engineers. After the presentations, it was time for fun and
learning with games designed by STEPS to open the students minds to engineering
in their local environment and to the processes involved in a design and build
project. It was a fantastic opportunity for young students to become more aware
of engineering in the world around them and to see what it feels like to walk
in the shoes of an engineer.
The level of engagement from
the students was enlightening, our engineers reported very bright young minds
concerned with topics such as homelessness, climate change and single use
plastics pollution. The experience of presenting to students, broadening their
understanding of what engineering is, hearing their ideas and discussing
practical ways that they can move forward with their projects was heartening
for our engineers, they all reported a desire to get involved again next year.
Tandem wish all the students luck with their entries for the Young Engineers Award, finalists will be announced during Engineers Week, February 29th – March 6th, 2020.

in Ireland, the UK and Europe.
Other highlights included the NISO Annual Health & Safety conference, The Mental Health and Wellbeing Summit, PDA Ireland’s Visual Inspection Seminar, The SCSI’s Planning Insights event and The Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association Inaugural discussion in Cork.
Tandem have thoroughly enjoyed getting involved in STEM and
STEPS initiatives this year, encouraging younger generations to consider a
career in engineering. During the year we have also met many college
undergraduates and graduates at careers events that have impressed us with
their knowledge, capabilities and drive.
