Thrive Events in January

Tandem held two social events in January to kickstart 2024 on a positive note. To celebrate diversity in Tandem, the Thrive committee organised a shared lunch and invited people to bring Irish & international foods to share. This was a big hit and will become a regular event in Tandem.

A group then headed to the Ice-Skating rink at Fota Island. We had some beginners and some more experienced skaters, but everyone in the group had fun.
Tandem’s Thrive committee is looking forward to many more social events this year.

STEPS Engineers Ireland Young Engineers Award

Tandems Advance Graduates were delighted to take part in this year’s STEPS Young Engineers Award.

This competition encourages 3rd and 4th class pupils to explore the world of engineering by developing an engineering project that would help improve their local community.

Tandems engineers visited schools nationwide, in person and virtually, and the pupils had the opportunity to showcase their engineering projects. Our engineers spoke to the class about the reasons they chose a career in engineering, insight into their day-to-day roles as well as the role engineering plays in the environment around us.

“The school visit was fantastic. They were a very engaging class, full of questions and stories!”

“We were very impressed with all the class projects and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”

MTU Work Placement Day

The Munster Technological University’s Electrical and Electronic Engineering Faculty had their inaugural Work Placement Day in September 2023. The day aims to showcase work placements by having students present a poster of their experience. Tandem was delighted to be one of six companies in attendance.

Students Olivia Hay and Alan O’Regan represented Tandem at the event, discussing their experience with all students from 1st to 4th year.

Alan and Olivia have been a great addition to Tandem’s electrical engineering team during their placements and wonderful ambassadors for Tandem in their faculty.

The poster will remain on display in the department hallway for all students to reference, hopefully it will provide some inspiration to other students!

Tandem is delighted to announce that it has been awarded a Silver rating from EcoVadis for the second year running.

Tandem is thrilled with this recognition and aims to continually improve its ESG practices.

Pride Month

At Tandem, we are proud of our inclusive culture in which people feel respected.

To mark the end of Pride month our employees enjoyed some delicious cupcakes, courtesy of Messy Buns, Marina Market & Middleton. Pride month ends each year however Tandem’s values and commitment to diversity remains. This gathering also provided an opportunity to get to know some of newest team members!

Waterford Greenway

On Saturday, 13th May 2023, Tandem Project Management Ltd.‘s Thrive committee arranged a Waterford Greenway cycle.  Tandem personnel, family and friends enjoyed the cycle from Dungarvan to Kilmacthomas and back, 44kms in all.

The views were made spectacular by some glorious sunshine for our entire route.  Outside of Dungarvan, there were views over Clonea Beach with Helvick Head on the other side of the bay. Once we turned away from the coast there were some sheltered areas of track, but mostly open countryside with views of the Comeragh Mountains to the North. The group stopped for a fantastic lunch in the Coach House, Kilmacthomas.

Galtee More Hike

On 15th April, guided by Julie Reeves Walking, the Tandem hikers set off from Kings Yard near Mitchelstown to conquer Galtee Mor. For some, it was almost in their backyard, they had scaled it many times, for others it was the first time.

The day was bright and clear. The group climbed the southern slope, taking in the view of the golden vale below and beyond to the Knockmealdown Mountains. The route takes in a series of three ridges, each ridge offering a break before pushing forward to the next. Prior to the last stretch, a steep slope to the summit, Julie advised extra layers as, even on a calm day, there’s always wind at the summit.

The wind at the summit was incredible, it was so strong it would nearly knock you over. Julie found a spot in the lea of the wind, now looking towards the Northwest. It was such a clear day, the water of the River Shannon could be seen glistening in the far distance. A spectacular spot for lunch!

Heading down provided alternative views, river crossings, and a walk through the forest. It was a great day spent with colleagues and friends.

Alexion Safety Day

Tandem was delighted to host a safety day for our ongoing projects at Alexion in April 2023.

Colm Burke and Tim Mulhall spoke about the success of the project and the importance of a continued emphasis on safety. Brian Lavelle and Cathal Mc Kenna, presented on milestones achieved and the excellent safety record of the project.

The guest speaker, professional boxer Eric Donovan, delivered an insightful story of overcoming challenges, determination, and reframing your viewpoint when faced with adversity. Eric’s messages of wellbeing and resilience were both grounded and inspirational.
