Summary:
A leading global pharmaceutical manufacturing company based in Sligo is seeking a Safety Officer to support a site expansion project. The successful candidate will oversee health and safety compliance across a live construction and commissioning environment, with particular focus on works taking place in and around external ATEX-rated zones.
Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day EHS support across the expansion project and associated contractor activities.
- Monitor site activities to ensure full compliance with health and safety legislation, company procedures, and industry best practice.
- Oversee works within and around ATEX-rated environments, ensuring appropriate controls and safe systems of work are in place.
- Support safe execution of commissioning and start-up activities for specialist vendor equipment, including MCCs, analyser cabinets, and utilities infrastructure.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and safety walks across construction and installation activities.
- Review and monitor permits to work, method statements, risk assessments, and contractor RAMS.
- Ensure safe management of high-risk activities.
- Support incident reporting, investigation, and close-out of corrective actions.
- Promote a strong safety culture across all project teams, contractors, and vendors.
- Liaise with project management, contractors, engineering teams, and specialist vendors to ensure safe project delivery.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Third-level qualification in Health and Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, or related discipline.
- Previous experience as a Safety Officer / EHS Officer within pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences, or highly regulated industrial environments.
- Construction project experience, ideally on brownfield or live site expansion projects.
- Experience working in ATEX / hazardous area environments is essential.
- Previous exposure to commissioning, start-up, and vendor installation activities is highly desirable.
- Contractor management and permit-to-work experience.
