Summary:
A well-established educational body in Cork is seeking to appoint a Clerk of Works to oversee the construction of a new purpose-built research facility.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise the construction of the project.
- Inspect building works, development works and ancillary civil engineering works to ensure compliance with the Works Requirements, accessibility standards, Building Regulations and statutory approvals (Planning, EIAR, Disability Access Grant, Fire Safety, etc.).
- Identify and record any non-compliance with the Works Requirements.
- Monitor and assess the contract programme, liaising with the Project Manager, Employer’s Representative, Assigned Certifier, Architect, Engineers and Quantity Surveyor.
- Monitor contractors’ resources on site, including plant and equipment.
- Monitor health and safety practices on site and report any issues to the Project Supervisor Construction Stage.
- Identify and record any contract variations arising on site.
- Maintain accurate electronic and written records of inspections.
- Maintain a daily diary including photographic records, progress of works, inspections and weather conditions.
- Carry out administrative duties as required to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the role.
- Liaise and cooperate with the appointed Mechanical and Electrical Clerk of Works.
- Deal with members of the public in a courteous, prompt and efficient manner and keep the Project Manager informed of all such interactions.
- Prepare Clerk of Works snag lists.
- Prepare and submit weekly reports to the Project Manager within strict timeframes.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Engineering or a related discipline, or a recognised Construction Trade Qualification with subsequent progression into construction management or Clerk of Works roles.
- Minimum of 10 years’ senior-level experience in a Management or Clerk of Works role on construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of building construction and/or civil engineering works.
- Experience on public sector projects.
- Detailed knowledge of the Irish construction regulatory environment.
- High level of ICT competence, including Building Information Modelling (BIM) and file-sharing platforms such as BIM 365 and Procure.
- Detailed knowledge of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and associated regulations, particularly the 2013 Construction Regulations and their application to this role.
- Valid SAFEPASS card.
